i’m a freshman and i play high school volleyball and softball. my volleyball season is over and i just want to focus on my grades until softball season comes up + go to weightlifting and get my arm built back up for pitching (i fractured my thumb and i’m having some back problems) so i haven’t been able to pitch. my mom wants me to try out for this junior olympic team that my volleyball coach is having. i don’t have any say it in, she is FORCING me to do it. she said "apparently you don’t want to play that badly if you don’t want to do whatever you can to get better" ok first volleyball isn’t my favorite sport, softball is. secondly i do like to play volleyball but my mom’s expecting me to be on the varsity team next as the setter, when none of the setters are graduating from last year. she also told me "you had all these big expectations in softball but you got a big reality check this summer on your softball team when you were the worst pitcher and you cant hit worth crap! your not going to be pitching at all during the winter so you might as well give that up!" how can i get better in softball when she expects to tell me that and not even let me go somewhere to pitch? she keeps forcing me to do something that i don’t want to do! what can i do?
this should be in family
Well, you could always switch to another position (for softball) so you can focus on hitting and not pitching. I mean, generally speaking, pitchers aren’t suppose to be good hitters anyway, but if you want to please your mom and become a better hitter at least, you might consider switching positions.
As far as volleyball goes, it doesn’t matter if the previous starters haven’t graduated, just out perform them if you want to play. If you don’t want to play just say so. This way you can tell your mom that you can fulfill your softball expectations because you’ll have more time to focus on softball. On the other hand, you can tell your mom that you’re the best you’ll ever be and still focus on softball.
I get that you like volleyball, but just not as much as softball. And seeing as you’re a pitcher, you need to practice all year. Once you stop pitching for a while, you’ll have to build up what you have lost while not practicing all the time.
