Why is womens soccer, or sports as a matter of fact, never televised?

Posted by admin on December 20th, 2009 and filed under sports womens softball | 6 Comments »

I mean, i have never ever in my whole entrie life, have seen, ESPN SportsNET, TSN or anything like that… put a womens game on tv! Whether its hockey, football, softball, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, etc! (except for the Olympics of course)

But thats not fair! Women never get any media attention or sometimes, even paid to play the sport they love! Like they dont make sports cards of female players or sell female jerseys and posters!

Why is it that this happens?
What are some solutions?
And how can we make the public enjoy watching women in sports!

soccer isn’t that widely shown to begin with and only the big games are shown on tv like world cup and stuff like that they need to have a network for us soccer on regular cable then they can show the full national teams and the development teams like the u-20 team and others

TV is driven by ad money. Which is in turn driven by how many viewers watch the TV program. Thus, TV shows are chosen for popular appeal rather than quality.

Solutions are scarce as it would require the restructuring of TV as we know it. But it is possible to watch many womens’ events online.

As far as enjoyment, this is the hardest to fix. Men are genetically and physically superior to women athletically (not a sexist statement, scientific). Therefore, all their sports will b slower, less powerful and less exciting for the avg. viewr.

Two sports that people like to watch women play, tennis and golf, come to mind. They get good TV ratings.
Also, women’s pro basketball, the WNBA, is televised a lot – which is more than fair, because it loses money, has lousy ratings and nobody cares about it.

mainly because it would not attract big ratings.
as for enjoyment, dont let Ryan C fool you, many people enjoy the womens versions of sports better because you get to see some skill instead just raw power.
for example, in tennis there is only one shot that men play: a power-drive to the opposite corner, whereas the women have a wide range of shots that display finnesse and skill even though power has been introduced to the game by the Williams sisters.

The amount of women’s soccer coverage on TV is disappointing, but it does exist. The channel that seems to show the most women’s soccer is Fox Soccer Channel, which has mainly men’s games but some women’s games too (U.S. women’s national team and top college games). It sucks that there isn’t more coverage of women’s sports but at least it gets more than it used to.
