I use to use the “squish the bug” technique. Problem is people forget about weight transfer.
You should keep the weight back BEFORE transfering your weight to the FRONT. Your BODY should still be back, but the WEIGHT should transfer to the front as you swing. The “STB” technique seems good for teaching opening the hips though.
It just seems like you end up focusing on it alot which ends up prohibiting weight transfer.
