As for Women's fast-pitch softball it is the fastest growing outdoor sport in America right now. If you actually took the time to watch it you would be surprised. I took my daughter to watch the College world series in Oklahoma and got the shock of my life. They are fantastic athletes and the game is much faster than baseball. I watch it every time it is on ESPN now, over baseball. And to note I am an old baseball player myself. I watched one high school girl this year that a friend told me to watch. She was the princess winner at her schools homecoming. She was clocked throwing a softball at 71 MPH from shortstop to first. She might weigh in at 125 lbs and she is about 5'6" tall. If your thinking that the old days of girls that can't throw and can't run, go watch girls competitive fast-pitch team this summer. You might just get surprised. I quit coaching boys and switched to the girls. They work harder, appreciate it more, and frankly are tougher.
References :
By law, what is offered to the men has to have an equal representation for the women's sports. So, if NCAA has a 64 field tourney for men, then they have to have one for women too.

I agree there aren't that many good women's teams, but I guess they would argue that they haven't had the publicity the men's teams have had for so long.

Guess you still have the choice of watching or not watching. But then women have the same choice about men's sports.
References :
I dont know if they necessarily copied us. The NCAA governs both and has created the tournaments for both genders, however, I believe that women would be better off just playing maybe an 8 team tournament. I seriously dont believe that anyone cares about watching the women's NCAA tournament and definitely not their NIT. Overall I agree with you
GREAT question!
