In elementary school I don’t think the umpires will make you use a different bat. However as you progress into 5th/6th Grade Baseball it will make a difference as by that age even recreational leagues are quite competitive.

I think the best thing is to ask the school sports person. it might matter cause they might be small and not be able to handle the bat.
so they need something light.

Do the bats count? I am going to guess your question should read "can a person use a baseball or softball bat in elementary sports?". I can’t answer because I don’t know if you are playing softball or baseball. My guess is, if you are playing in an organized league of any type, you will be required to use equipment that is relative to the sport. This is usually the case for safety reasons.
My advise – If you are playing baseball, don’t use a softball bat. The reason I say this is because the softball bat has a thinner barrell, and will make it more difficult to hit the ball. On the other hand, don’t use a baseball bat if you are playing softball – the baseball bat has a thicker barrell, and it would actually be cheating because the thicker barrell makes it easier to hit the ball.
