Is pitching softball bad for your arm?

ok, so I’m in a really small school and we don’t have a really strong sports program. I play Field Hockey, Basketball, and Softball… My best sport is Basketball, and I really love field hockey. I really like softball too but to be honest… our team s*cks! But we have terrible pitchers and we need someone who would be dedicated to it and would go to a pitching coach and stuff. My coaches realllllly want me to pitch because im the most athletic girl on the team (this is jv, im 14 years old) but my parents won’t let me because they dont want me to screw up my arm. I am totally with that but i do really want to pitch and i would try so hard at it and work really hard and go to camps and coaches if they would let me. I don’t want to screw my arm up because I really want to play college basketball, and I also play AAU basketball during the softball season. But is pitching for softball really that bad for your arm? I mean its a natural movement. My parents always use my friend as an example who pitches for softball.. she has a screwed up arm her shoulder won’t stay in it’s socket so she couldn’t play half of basketball and all this season of softball and she has to wear this huge brace thing.. but the thing is, she also plays tennis and basketball! So should I pitch? Or would it screw up my arm???

thanks =]

playing basketball you should be more concerned about blowing out your knee with an ACL tear which usually can take over a year to recover from to where you can play again and to which female players are especially vulnerable much more so than boys and men. Girls basketball players suffer this injury at a higher rate then even football players.

For your friend I think tennis may be more of a likely cause for her arm problems than softball

    its not if you do it with correct form and stop when you have pitched too much because when you pitch too long and over pitch it can really hurt your shoulder and your rotator cup!

    If you have the right form you wont mess up your arm
    I have pitched for years and can still pitch.
    You just need to make sure you take care of your arm and that means take a day off every couple of days from pitching, and icing your arm for twenty minutes after EVERY time you pitch.
    Just be careful.
    I love it and wouldnt trade it for the world.
