it seems like other women sports have much better looking people than womens basketball. dont tell me that its because they sweat and all that jazz because so does the other women who play different sports. tennis has good looking women, soccer has good looking women, softball has good looking women, and the list goes on. but when it comes to basketball, the women are just so unattractive. what’s up with that?

More attractive women in the WNBA are usually less athletic as the ones that are unattractive. That is the way I like it. Although if you’re talking about attractive, maybe Sue Bird or Candace Parker will help.

Harvard is mt DREAM school. I am only a freshman but I want to get on this!

As of now, my weighted GPA for the year is a 4.15. Next year, I was accepted into the AP USH class, and am also taking Hon. Alg. 2, Hon. French 4, Italian 3 (skipped a level), Honors Chem, Honors English, and a student leadership elective. Each year I am going to take every AP I can. Unfortunately, I quit my sport (I was a softball pitcher) because the time commitment was way too much and I couldnt focus on school. I volunteer and am a junior educator at the local museum. (I know I need another organization Im working on it..My friend with a ton of connections in her family said her dad found an organization that wants 2 teenage girls for the leaders :] ) I also speak 4 languages (English, Arabic, French, Italian) and am looking to add more. (I LOVE languages) I am half asian and half white. I am a muslim, but I convertee. (Converted on my own choice) I am very passionate about womens oppression in the middle east and am planning my MAJOR sophmore research paper about that. My goal with languages is to one day understand the riddle of human nature….languages bring people together…I can use them to travel the world and meet all kinds of people that will bring me closer to that goal.

I have a favorite teacher who is Harvard alum. does that help at all? I need to get her again in my junior yr I think for this to help)

My counselour who likes me a lot of Columbia alum.

so, everyone, what can you tell me about how I am doing so far? Any additional advice? Anything and everything is welcome.

Thank you so much.
My argument for going to Harvard is the large language department in which I can flourish in my linguistic skills which will aid me in acheiving my life goals

Colleges ask for unweighted GPAs; weighted GPAs are meaningless because every high school has their own weighting system. Everyone applying to Harvard has the highest grades in the hardest classes and very high test scores, and they took fewer than 5% of them this year. Activities are a matter of quality, not quantity – they’d rather see one fantastic thing than everything out there. You also need a good reason for wanting to go there (‘it’s a great school’ or ‘it sounds really impressive’ are not good reasons), and a reason for attending a top school in the first place. No, the teacher isn’t likely to help. That’s not really an impressive job for an alum, and most people could find an alum to write them a letter.

No, knowing Harvard alums really doesn’t help unless they give you tips and hints — and then only if they’re currently participating in the admissions process and know what is going on at that specific time. (Or if they are your parent, and you are a very qualified legacy, or if they are an alum who donated a zillion dollars to Harvard, and they write you, a letter of recommendation, but you must be highly qualified, and they really shouldn’t have written more than maybe one other letter of recommendation.)

You basically need an unweighted GPA of 4.0 that includes plenty of AP/Honors classes, 5′s on the AP tests, and a SAT of around 2350 to be competitive as far as academics. (25% of Harvard admits score over 2350.) You need to stand out first among your classmates, but that’s just the first step. The Ivies don’t want well-rounded students, they want a well-rounded student body. They want Experts. What is your Passion? (Languages?) Are you an Expert in it? You must have extracurriculars, internships, community service in your Passion, with Focus and Depth. Don’t be scattered.

The Ivies want to see that you have a goal/profession that you will be working toward at their college. Who knows what they want to do at 17 or 18? Not many, not really. But it’s good to have something to state, they want to see you have a direction. You can always change your mind later.

Don’t take more AP’s than you can get A’s in, and 5′s on the test. My son’s private school has a very high Ivy matriculation, but every student doesn’t take every AP available. Any student can take a zillion AP’s, but that doesn’t impress (5+ seems to be a good number right now), time is better spent on something creative, something unique.

If you speak several foreign languages, they only really count (to impress) if you’re at a level 4 or 5 (AP). So if you aren’t at that level in all languages, then focus on becoming proficient before adding more languages.

You should have state or national awards or the equivalent. Those students that are admitted that don’t really stand out, just your basic top student, are likely a certain type of student the Ivy wanted that year, in a location (often not in a big city) the Ivy wanted to pull from. They just get lucky, nothing anyone can count on.

Top athletes (like statewise) is one of the best ways to get into the Ivies. The coaches get a certain number of picks. One must still be qualified, but being a top athlete can really make an applicant stand out.

Why is Harvard your dream college? Have you spent much time there? I suggest you do before you decide on Harvard, it’s not like most students, or parents, think. Remember to look at other colleges too!

85% of Harvard applicants are qualified, but only about 6% are admitted.

(Dh participates in the admissions process for his Ivy alma mater.)

Good luck!

My boyfriend and I were watching TV and a womens softball game on, and my boyfriend was like "turn the channel, womens sports are so pathetic." we argued a bit about it and then he claimed that women are just weak and will never be able to compete with men. I told him I could kick his ass if I wanted to. He said he would give me a free shot and bet me I couldnt take him down.

Thinking back on it, I dont know if I can take him down, he is pretty big and strong, and im well, not. I just would like to prove to him women can be just as good as men, any suggestions on how to prove my point to my cocky boyfriend and take him down.

Girls always over react to this. That wasn’t discriminatory at all. Guys always say that because well… it’s true. I mean look, guys are built to be the worker of the house, especially in the olden days. They would do the hard labour while women would maintain the house. From then on it’s always been perceived as that. While there are women stronger then men, in general men are stronger, just naturally. He was probably joking around with you, and by that he meant women sports are just more boring to watch then men sports, because there’s no hitting, less competitive, etc etc. Womens sports have just always been perceived as being "worse".

Hi,
I have recently gone to College at Ferris State University and have had an incident here at school.
I am living on campus and have my car parked in a parking lot located right next to the Womens softball field, yesterday the girls hit a foul ball and it came down right on my window breaking it of course. So they reported it and the 5-0 here at Ferris asked if i want to make a report and i said yes. They told me that it was my responsibility in parking in that lot and I assumed risk while parked there. But my argument is that The first day i got my permit i asked if i could leave that lot because it is dangerous with all 3 of the softball fields surrounding it. So again I think that Ferris put me and my car at risk in that lot even after i asked to move and they denied my request. so now that this has happened i feel that Feris State should be the ones held accountable because it was caused by one of their sports and by them sending me to park there, i have no other choice to be parked aynwhere else because i can get a ticket.
So please tell me if I have a legitimate arguement and should pursue after the school to have them pay it. Thanks a lot.

Sounds like a perfect case for small claims court. But talk to your insurance company first. They may well have one of their lawyers write a letter that gets it all cleared up.

Make a damn good sandwich. That’s a competition you will always win.

There seems to be a sterotype that there are lots of lesbians in sports. Womens softball, Basketball, Tennis than in non sporting women. For example, lets say 35% of all woman softball players are lesbians and only 10% of non sporting women are lesbians. Do you think this sterotype is true that there are alot more lesbians in sports? Because i’ve heard of an instance where half of an entire softball team were lesbians

That same stereotype would have you believe that all masculine-looking women are lesbians,
or that all lesbians like to hang out in waterfront bars and start fights with sailors. (and win)
That ain’t the way it is. There are just as many lesbians who look like fashion models and are about as athletic as fashion models. Most look just about like everybody else and have varying degrees of interest in sports..
